Keeping considerations
The Aphonopelma madera, known as the “Madera Canyon Tarantula,” is a species native to the Madera Canyon area in Arizona. It has a dark brown to black coloration, which allows it to blend into the mountainous, rocky environments it inhabits. Keep a Madera Canyon tarantula in a shallow, horizontal enclosure with 3–4 inches of dry substrate and a hide. Maintain room temperatures (22°C–26°C) with low humidity, providing only a shallow water dish. Feed insects every 1–3 weeks depending on age, and expect very slow growth.
