Keeping considerations

Day-to-day care
Diet & prey
Flying insects (bluebottles, green bottles, houseflies, fruit flies, moths, and hoverflies), plus occasional soft-bodied grubs or roaches
Feeding
Feed based on abdomen condition (slim/flat abdomen means time to feed; rounded/full abdomen means stop); avoid overfeeding to prevent injury during moults
Enclosure
Vertical arboreal setup with strong mesh top for moulting and naturalistic leaf litter
Substrate
Moist leaf litter or coco fibre that holds humidity without becoming waterlogged
Ventilation
High cross-ventilation / breathable setup to prevent stagnant air and mould
Hydration & misting
Light daily misting (morning preferred) to create dew droplets and humidity spikes
Handling
Large, calm, and confident, but primarily treated as a display species
Sex differences
Distinct from the 4th instar onward—females develop a wide, jagged "leaf shield" pronotum and a broad abdomen, while males are slim with long functional wings

Requires patience (wait 3–4 weeks post-final moult for females, 2 weeks for males); use a high-ventilation mesh cage and supervise closely to prevent female aggression; oothecae hatch in 4 to 6 weeks at 25°C to 30°C
